The four golf majors of the year have come and gone, but the season isn’t over yet. Our team at TGA Beach Cities has been keeping track all season as golfers on the PGA Tour have been amassing points to determine their seeding for the FedExCup — a four-tournament playoff that culminates in the crowning of a new champion. Click here to check out the official current standings.
2007 marked a new era for the PGA Tour with players earning points based on where they finish in the standings of each tournament throughout the year. The top 125 point-leaders at the end of the regular PGA Tour season are eligible to play in first FedEx Cup playoff event. A progressive cut takes place after each playoff event until only 30 golfers remain for the Tour Championship.

Because it is a points-based system, winning the Tour Championship doesn’t guarantee you will be the FedEx Cup Champion. As was the case last year when Xander Schauffele took home the top prize at the Tour Championship, but Justin Thomas (who placed second in the final playoff event) earned more total points and won the title of 2017 FedEx Cup Champion.
Catch all the action on the Golf Channel and NBC Sports as we lead up to crowning the 2018 FedEx Cup Champion this fall. The golf doesn’t have to stop once the season is over though. Sign up for an upcoming TGA golf program in the Beach Cities area to Keep Playing!™ Click here to explore programs.
