The year was 2003 and OutKast’s defining hit Hey Ya! was dominating the airwaves, everyone was tuning into The O.C. on Tuesday nights, and Michael Jordan was retiring for the third time. TGA’s CEO and founder, Joshua Jacobs, had recently moved back to his hometown of Los Angeles from New York City and was helping his younger sister choose an afterschool enrichment program.
He noticed that there weren’t any golf programs available and was immediately inspired to develop one. Soon thereafter he launched a golf enrichment program called Total Golf Adventures at six local elementary schools.
TGA’s innovative, 5-level after-school program made golf affordable and accessible for children and received an overwhelmingly positive response from schools, parents, and students. Word spread and soon after, TGA expanded to more schools and began to offer camps and clinics at local golf courses. After three years of honing and improving the TGA business model, Joshua began offering geographically exclusive franchises to entrepreneurs across the country who shared his vision for giving children the opportunity to learn and grow through sports.
In 2011, TGA partnered with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to develop a complimentary tennis program and franchise business. The brand also evolved by redefining the acronym TGA to mean: Teach, Grow, Achieve. Over the next several years, these three concepts became a framework for TGA’s program structure and player experience that combines athletics, academics, and life lessons.

A third franchise opportunity was born in 2017 which included six team-based sports and brought the TGA Premier Sports offerings to eight total:
