TGA of Southeast Michigan

Kudos to TGA coaches, students for success in major tournaments

Abby Schlotterer, shown here with mom, brother and grandpa at our spring parent-child event, has advanced to subregionals of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition

TGA assistant coaches, former students and current students have been excelling in major tournaments.  Here are the highlights:

State high school boys qualifiers — Charlie Schuetze and Alex Blyth will be heading to the Division I state tournament with their Grosse Pointe South team, while Adam Burghardt and Cam Chrisman will be representing Warren DeLaSalle.  Other TGA qualifers in Division I were Max White (Bloomfield Hills) and Sam Yono (Birmingham Brother Rice).  Although they didn’t quite qualify for states, three individuals should be commended for outstanding scores — Joshua Tranzow (76, Dakota), Max O’Rourke (77, Walled Lake Northern) and Will Smalley (79, Troy).

Scott Hanna of Country Day qualified as an individual with a 79 in Division 2.  In Division 4, Colin Degnore shot 76 and Spencer Lukas shot 80 to lead University Liggett to the state finals.

Michigan Open qualifiers — Jackson Jones of Kalamazoo College and Scott Sparks of Detroit Mercy both shot 71s at Forest Lake Country Club to qualify for the Michigan Open June 10-13 at The Bear in Traverse City.  Zach Sudinsky of Eastern Michigan University was medalist with a 71 in his qualifer at Lyon Oaks.

Spring girls tournaments — Ariel Chang won a Top 50 Junior Tour event at Twin Lakes with a 75. Fellow TGA assistant coaches Carly Ortwine and Sophia Ubaydi finished second and third.

Lauren Timpf won the 13-15 division of a Meijer-Callaway Tour event at Davison Country Club with an 83.

Drive, Chip and Putt — Most of the local qualifiers are later in the summer, but the first Michigan event was May 18 at Fox Hills in Plymouth, and five TGA students advanced to subregionals — Abigail Schlotterer (girls 7-9), Sanya Singhal (girls 12-13), Alexander DuPont (boys 7-9), Aiden Brown (boys 12-13) and Ryan O’Rourke (boys 14-15).  Good luck to these golfers in the subregionals, and to the many TGA students participating in later local qualifiers.
