Former students Lauren and Ryan win divisions at GAM Invitational

Former TGA students Lauren Timpf and Ryan O’Rourke turned in exceptional performances Sept. 14-15 to win their divisions in the prestigious GAM Invitational at Forest Akers in Lansing.

Ryan won the boys 15-under division with rounds of 72-67, winning by an astounding 11 strokes over the state’s top junior players.

Lauren, who was 12 during the tournament and turned 13 the following week, won the girls 15-under division with rounds of 75-75 to win by one stroke.

Ryan, a student at Walled Lake Northern High School, is beginning his first session as a TGA assistant coach this month.  Lauren is too young to be an official assistant, but she was an intern for the spring class at her school, St. Peter Lutheran, and will continue to intern at TGA classes this year.

Next for Lauren is the Drive, Chip and Putt Regional Qualifier at Oakland Hills Oct. 5.  Winners at Oakland Hills advance to the national finals the Sunday before the 2020 Masters at Augusta National.  Lauren is one of three TGA players who advanced to Oakland Hills.  Best of luck Saturday to Lauren, Preston Johnson and Leo Bugajewski.
