Every Junior Golfer Counts: A Lesson From the Son of a Legend

Why We Do What We Do at TGA

At TGA, we believe in the power of play, the value of community, and the importance of recognizing every child. Whether it’s your daughter, your son, or a brand-new student, every junior athlete matters.

  • Your child is the heart of what we do.
  • Every student counts—even in a group setting.
  • The group dynamic creates a powerful way to learn, allowing kids to see, share, and grow together.

A Quick Story From the Course

Two years ago, during one of our Junior Golf Leagues at Brookview Golf Course, I was getting to know the students during our first session. As always, I asked a few fun questions about their other hobbies and whether they had any golf experience.

One student casually mentioned that his grandfather had taught him a little bit about the game. I asked more—what did he learn? Had his grandfather played competitively?

He shrugged and said his grandfather had played in some tournaments and had been a “pretty good golfer.” I probed a bit more.

A few minutes later, I realized that this student’s grandfather wasn’t just a “good golfer”—he was one of the greatest golfers of all time. A Hall of Famer with victories around the world and multiple major championships to his name.

I swallowed hard, smiled, and went right back to what we do every day: I matched the student with a group that would be a good fit for that day’s scramble round.

Yes, I was now coaching the grandson of a golf legend—but that didn’t change a thing.

Because at TGA, Everyone Counts

That day, just like every other day, we focused on inclusion, engagement, and teamwork:

  • Every student had shots used in the scramble.
  • Every student received the same amount of energy, instruction, and encouragement.
  • Every student contributed—and every student mattered.

It didn’t matter whose grandfather had won majors or whose parents had just learned what a driver is. At TGA, everyone starts from the same tee box.

Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with us. It’s truly a joy to be part of their journey through sports, and we’re honored to help them grow, both on and off the course.
