Get ready for fall! New league at Somerset, two parent-child events, tons of classes

Our Sunday fall leagues at Somerset Park and Sycamore Hills/Rammler already are sold out and have significant wait lists, while our Saturday league scheduled for Maples in Novi had just a handful of registrations.

So we decided to move the Saturday Maples league to Somerset Park in Troy, providing a centrally located option for people who were hoping to join the Sunday league at Somerset or Sycamore/Rammler.

That means we have plenty of spots for the new Saturday league, which starts Sept. 7.  We have two age divisions — 8-10 and 11-15. The 8-10 group plays a low-pressure scramble format, while the 11-15 golfers play their own ball. Tee times are late afternoon (between 3 and 4:15 p.m.).  Leagues are open to anyone who has completed at least one TGA after-school session or camp or has comparable experience. Players should feel comfortable playing nine holes.

Parent-child Tournaments: Create lasting memories with an afternoon and evening that includes clinic, 9 holes with cart, then dinner. We have two fall events — Saturday, Sept. 14, at Sycamore Hills in Macomb Township, and Sunday, Sept. 15 at Hilltop in Plymouth. Cost for a two-person team is just $79.  We have prizes for top teams in a modified scramble/alternate shot format, plus closest to hole and long drive for both parents and kids, plus a 50-50 raffle to benefit the TGA Sports Foundation.

After-school classes: We have more than 90 fall sessions scheduled at schools and community centers throughout the metro area. These are fun, fast-paced classes that are great for beginners, but also provide an excellent opportunity for more advanced players to work on their games during the school year. Most are right after school, but we also have evening and weekend options.
