We miss your kids! Please convey our virtual handshakes and high-fives.
It’s still impossible to know what we’ll be facing in the next days, weeks and months, but TGA is eager to resume our programs in conjunction with partners at schools, community centers and golf courses, as soon as it’s safe to do so. Gov. Whitmer is expected to announce a decision tomorrow about the remainder of the school year, and it’s unlikely that children will return.
Here is the status of TGA programs at this point:
Winter classes that weren’t completed: Thankfully, about half of our winter classes finished before schools were closed. But we still had lots of unfinished winter sessions. TGA — or our school partners if they originally collected funds — already have processed pro-rated credits or refunds for most winter after-school classes that won’t be made up. In some cases, we still have an opportunity to make up winter classes, so you will hear soon about makeup dates or credits/refunds. For all incomplete winter sessions, we will deliver the kids’ hat clips and last-class handouts in individual envelopes to each school, or mail them to homes if school does not resume.
Spring after-school enrichment programs — It seems likely that kids will not return to school this year. But if school resumes, we will resume our programs. Three districts — Rochester, Utica and Walled Lake — already have canceled all spring after-school activities and you will be receiving refunds directly from those districts if you already had signed up. Most other districts and individual private and charter schools still plan to hold after-school activities when school is in session. In some cases we might be adjusting the dates. Of course if Gov. Whitmer says schools will not re-open, all school-based programs will be canceled. We might have the opportunity to hold some programs when it’s safe at community centers or golf courses. Stay tuned. We will offer credits or refunds if we have to cancel any programs.
Spring parent-child events — We were scheduled May 2 at Sycamore Hills and May 3 at Links of Novi, but those events have been postponed. We hope to reschedule in late May, June or July. A final decision will be announced in our May 1 newsletter.
Spring leagues — At this point, we have delayed the start from the weekend of April 25-26 to the weekend of May 16-17, assuming golf courses are open by then. Leagues seem to be the perfect opportunity to get outside while still observing appropriate social-distancing guidelines. Leagues are scheduled on Saturdays at Maples in Novi, and on Sundays at Somerset Park in Troy and our Macomb County league that has some dates at Rammler and some at Sycamore Hills. A final decision will be announced in the May 1 newsletter.
Summer camps — We begin camps the week of June 15-19, so we’re hoping our summer programs will not be affected. We have extended our $60 early-registration discount for all-day camps by a month to April 30. Regular price is $425, so discounted price is $365. We have nine locations throughout Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. We are getting close to sellouts for the first week at Somerset Park and The Myth, so you still need to act quickly to secure your spot. Of course if we need to cancel any sessions, you will be able to move to a different week or get a full refund.
