Welcome to fall! TGA of Southeast Michigan is proud to announce a new partnership with LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, the only national junior golf program that specializes in providing girl-friendly environments for juniors to learn the game. The mission is to help prepare girls for a lifetime of enjoyment of the game while also inspiring them to feel confident, build positive self-esteem and live active and healthy lives.
We are starting with programs at two sites — Monday evenings from 5:30-6:30 at Somerset Park Golf Course in Troy starting Sept. 24 and Thursdays from 6-7 at Country Oaks Elementary in Commerce Township starting Sept. 19.
Both six-week sessions will be taught by TGA assistant chapter director Orie Murray, who was a varsity golfer at Rochester College and continues to play high-level competitive golf. Orie will be assisted by volunteers from The LPGA Amateur Golf Association.
Of course TGA continues to offer a full slate of coed fall programs, including:
Leagues: We have three separate fall leagues — Saturdays at Maples in Novi, plus Sundays at Somerset Park in Troy and Sycamore Hills in Macomb Township. Leagues start the weekend of Sept. 8-9, so register now! We have two age divisions — 8-10 and 11-15. The 8-10 group plays a low-pressure scramble format, while the 11-15 golfers play their own ball. Tee times are late afternoon. Leagues are open to anyone who has completed at least one TGA after-school session or camp, or can demonstrate comparable experience. Players should feel comfortable playing nine holes.
After-school classes: We have more than 85 fall sessions scheduled at schools and community centers throughout the metro area. These are fun, fast-paced classes that are great for beginners, but also provide an excellent opportunity for more advanced players to work on their games during the school year. Most are right after school, but we also have evening and weekend options.
Parent-child Tournaments: Create lasting memories with an afternoon and evening that includes clinic, 9 holes with cart, then dinner. We have two fall events — Saturday, Sept. 15, at Sycamore Hills, and Sunday, Sept. 16 at Hilltop in Plymouth. Cost for a two-person team is just $69.
