TGA of Southeast Michigan

Jack and Mike come full circle

In the fall of 2008, Jack Glover was one of TGA’s first students in the after-school class at Defer Elementary in Grosse Pointe Park.  I remember that Jack not only displayed a strong swing and putting stroke, but he was always asking questions and hungry to learn as much as he could.

Fast forward to fall of 2014.  Jack was a sophomore at U of D Jesuit and a member of the varsity golf team.  He became a TGA assistant coach and worked many after-school classes and summer camps throughout his high school years.  Now Jack is a sophomore at Wayne State and a lead instructor for TGA.

Mike Mercier started as a TGA student at Great Oaks Academy, a K-8 school where Mike was one of the older students and immediately began acting like an assistant coach, helping the coaches set up and serving as a mentor to younger students. He became an official assistant coach when he began attending Berkley High and played on the varsity golf team.  He was our assistant coach of the year in 2017.  Now Mike is a sophomore at University of Michigan-Dearborn and a lead instructor for after-school classes.  He also was a mainstay at our Somerset and Maples summer camps, including a week as camp director at Maples.

We have many former students who are now assistant coaches, but Jack and Mike are the first people to advance from student to assistant coach to lead instructor.  This is a very impressive milestone.  Congrats to Jack and Mike!

We are very proud of the entire TGA team — from teenagers to several active coaches in their 70s and and one in his 80s.  Click here to meet the team
