TGA coaches, former students and current students continue to excel in major tournaments. Here are the latest highlights:
State high school boys championships — Charlie Schuetze and Alex Blyth helped Grosse Pointe South finish second in Division I, while Colin Degnore and Spencer Lukas helped University Liggett finish second in Division 4. Colin tied for eighth invidually with rounds of 82-76.
Michigan Open — Zach Sudinsky of Eastern Michigan University tied for fifth with very impressive rounds of 70-71-71 at The Bear in Traverse City. Zach was the only amateur to finish in the top 10.
Michigan Amateur — Scott Sparks of University of Detroit Mercy advanced to the round of 16 and Jackson Jones of Kalamazoo College advanced to the round of 32 at the Oakland Hills North Course.
Spring girls tournaments — Ariel Chang, Danielle Staskowski and Mikaela Schulz all advanced to the quarterfinals of the Michigan Girls Junior State Amateur. Danielle beat Ariel in the quarterfinals, but barely lost her semifinal match.
Lauren Timpf won another Meijer-Callaway Tour event, this time with a final-round 76 at Fox Hills.
GAM Net Chapman event — Greg Fisher and his partner almost won at the Orchards for the second straight year, but they had to settle for second place.
Drive, Chip and Putt — TGA players continue to excel in this event. The latest to qualify for subregionals were Justin Platt (boys 7-9) and Leo Bugajewski (boys 12-13) at Whispering Willows in Livonia. Five TGA students advanced earlier at Fox Hills — Abigail Schlotterer (girls 7-9), Sanya Singhal (girls 12-13), Alexander DuPont (boys 7-9), Aiden Brown (boys 12-13) and Ryan O’Rourke (boys 14-15). There are more local qualifiers in July.
