Congratulations to Coach Evelyn Kensicki, who got her second career hole-in-one May 23 during her league at Plumbrook. It was a 6-iron on the 125-yard 15th hole and she shot 87 from the forward tees. Despite very hot and humid weather that day, Evelyn played a second 18 and shot 86 from the middle tees!
Evelyn, who teaches tons of after-school classes and runs our Rammler summer camp, was spared one of the hole-in-one traditions. The Plumbrook restaurant wasn’t open because of COVID-19, so she didn’t need to buy drinks for everyone in her league. I’m sure her friends will try to collect later!
Here are some facts about aces:
— The odds of getting a hole-in-one are about 12,500 to 1. For a professional, it’s about 2,500 to 1.
— Amateur Norman Manley of California has the most aces (59) of any golfer in the world. He made them all in a 15-year period between 1964 and 1979.
— Tiger Woods has 20 aces, including three in competition.
— The pro record for aces in competition is held by Kathy Whitworth (11). The men’s record is shared by Hal Sutton and Robert Allenby with 10.
— Most pro golfers have at least a few aces, but Bryson DeChambeau had never gotten a hole-in-one until he scored an ace on the 16th hole of the final round of the 2019 Masters.
