Ex-students and coaches excel in girls high school events

Lauren Timpf, now a freshman at Lutheran North, keeps adding trophies. This was from an earlier summer tournament.

The high school girls golf season is in full swing, and there have been some terrific performances by former TGA students and current assistant coaches. Here are a few highlights:

— Former student Olivia Hemmila, who started taking TGA classes as a preschooler, led Troy Athens to the Oakland County Division 2 title with a career best 67 at Links of Crystal Lake.

— Former student Samantha Coleman of Northville High School won the Highest Honors Tournament with a 71 and the Dow Invite with a 70.

— Assistant coach Ariel Chang of Utica Eisenhower won the Lady Falcon Invitational with a 68, the Troy Invitational with a 70 and the Macomb County Tournament with an amazing six-under-par 66 at difficult Cherry Creek Golf Course.

— Former student and current assistant coach Lauren Timpf, a freshman at Lutheran North, won the Eagle Inspiration with a 73 and led her team to victory in the Macomb County Tournament with a second-place 75.

— Assistant coach Audrey Becker of Grosse Pointe South won the Coach Miller Brighton Invite with a 75.

— Former student Venetia Chap of Farmington won the OAA Blue Division with a 75.

There are more than 30 former students and current coaches competing this fall. Best of luck to all the girls in regional and state competition this month!
