Coach Ian wins vaccine lottery and four-year college scholarship

Here’s a screen shot of Coach Ian appearing on Channel 4 news.

Assistant coach Ian Miller, a 16-year-old junior at Plymouth Salem High School, got his first Covid-19 vaccine in April, immediately after his age group was approved. He decided to enter the MI Shot to Win sweepstakes, and got a call in mid-July from a representative of sweepstakes sponsor Meijer.

“If first thought the call was a scam,” Ian said, but the Meijer representative was persistent and convinced Ian that he really had won a four-year scholarship to any Michigan university. Ian then appeared on the Channel 4 news.

Ian hopes to attend Michigan State and eventually medical school to become a dermatologist.

In the meantime, he wants more people to follow his lead and get the vaccine. “Don’t just get it to protect yourself,” Ian said. “Do it to protect those around you, so we can get back to the way it was before covid.”
