Drive, Chip and Putt is back! Here’s how to join the fun

Former TGA student and current assistant coach Lauren Timpf came just a step short of Augusta in 2019.

TGA encourages students at all levels to sign up for free qualifying for the national Drive, Chip and Putt competition, which culminates each April with the national finals just before The Masters in Augusta, Ga. Registration opens at 10 a.m. on March 1.

Last year’s qualifying schedule was canceled because of the pandemic and the April Masters was postponed until November, so the 2019 national qualifiers will be competing this spring at Augusta.

Everything is back on track for qualifying this summer, with the top players advancing to Augusta in April 2022.

In 2019, more than 70 TGA golfers participated in local qualifying, with 16 advancing to subregionals and three advancing to regionals, just a step short of Augusta. There likely will be four qualifying sites in the metro area this summer. There also will be qualifying sites in northern and western Michigan if you’d like to combine this event with a family trip.

Qualifying is free. Again, details and all qualifying locations will be announced March 1 at 10 a.m. at drivechipandputt.com

There are many other opportunities to compete this summer. TGA has a series of four nine-hole tournaments designed to introduce children to competitive golf in a low-key setting. All are on weekends and parents are encouraged to caddy for their children. You can sign up here for the summer tournaments.

There are many events sponsored by Top Fifty Junior Tour, U.S. Kids Golf, the Callaway-Meijer Tour, Golf Association of Michigan and more.
